- Gather and all information relevant to position
- Omit First Person Pronouns (I, me, my)
- Omit unnecessary articles (a, an, the)
- Use phrases with action verbs
- Eliminate all errors
- Plan an attractive layout
- Make it look clean, neat, and orderly
- Use bolding, italics, or underlines to emphasize
- Focus on accomplishments
- Edit, re-edit, get feedback, edit some more
- Use professional resume paper (white, ecru, gray)
- Use the space on the page wisely!
Resume Don’ts
- Be too wordy
- Include anything negative
- Mix formats by being inconsistent with bold, italics, abbreviations, etc.
- Let someone else prepare your resume
- Let any errors through
- Use inferior paper or printers
- Use pastel paper, flower designs, photos
